Spreadsheet Tools began operations in 2006 with the Dependency Auditor (Excel-Auditor.com) add-in, which extends Microsoft Excel with advanced calculation logic exploration features. Since then, xlCompare has become one of the leading spreadsheet comparison tools.
2009
Story of the xlCompare begins in 2009. First version has been published as a COM add-in for Microsoft Excel. It was able to compare Excel files and merge cells from one sheet to another. Unfortunately injection into Excel's model gives some important limitations. So, the complete independence of Microsoft Excel was just a matter of time.
2014
In 2014 new generation of xlCompare was published. This was a completely new software product, based on the Spreadsheet Core engine. It works much faster than COM add-in and got some features that are not possible in the Excel application. From this time xlCompare is constantly gets new features and improvements. xlCompare gets a command line interface (CLI) and ability to compare 3 files at once. This made it suitable for resolving editing conflicts with XLSX files in the GIT, SNV, Perforce and other version control applications.
2021
Free online service to compare Excel files was published on the xlCompare.com website in 2021. This is a simple tool for users who don't need a professional desktop application and want to visually see the difference between 2 Excel tables. This online application is one of the market leaders within online spreadsheet comparison tools.
2023
Today xlCompare is more than a spreadsheet compare tool. XML files are important part of our development process. XML files that are internals of the Excel (XLSX) spreadsheets also require comparison tool. In 2023 xlCompare was extended with ability to compare XML and Text files. Text file comparison is free. So, you can use it as free tool to compare Text files. xlCompare became a solution for file management.
